Kick-Ass the movie, shigoto update, and a short omake!
I said I wanted to post shorter entries more often, but I'm not following through, am I? Nrgh.
After continuously hearing good things, on Thursday I went to the theater and saw Kick-Ass. I liked it. :D I attended the matinee showing with my fellow geek
knastymike, and as we were the only people in the audience, we could yell and laugh and be as obnoxious as we wanted. It was great! XD I do love a private showing. ^^V My personal favorite part of the film (aside from seeing gloriously fit young men running around in skin-tight clothing--AHEM--) was when the female love interest said she was reading Shojo Beat. OMG! *squees* I was indirectly in a movie!!! Oh yes, and I agree with pretty much everyone else: Hit Girl completely steals the show. XD
And now, how about a shigoto update??
Claymore - The script for vol 17 has yet to arrive, but I will be surprised if it doesn't appear sometime this week. I sincerely hope Clay Editor 3 can give me the full 9 weeks we agreed upon before this delay, as this volume is one big fight scene. Eh heh heh... Oog. *has huge sweatdrop* (BTW, that's what I've dubbed this vol. Vol 13 was the Butt-Shot Volume, vol 17 is the Big Fight Scene.) On a fun side note, last month while I was in my fave bookstore waiting for Book Club to start, I saw a guy walk out of the manga section carrying a copy of Clay 15 to buy. Kyaaaa! X3 That makes me a happy chibi elf! Also the June issue of Shonen Jump has a preview chapter from Clay 16, Scene 85. ^^V Now if only Tegami Bachi were back in the mag instead of Ultimo, I'd say the June issue is pretty much perfect. *sigh*
House of Five Leaves - My 2nd pinch-hit chapter, 8, is up to read! Unfortunately I will no longer be lettering the rest of volume 2. :( The volume has been delayed, and since the deadlines are now blown anyway, CE3 doesn't need me, and thus the original letterer will resume his duties. Ah well! At least with the brand-new and shiny anime I can see what happens. Even if the music is a rather cracky choice. The OP I can understand, but that ED leaves me a bit boggled. *blink blink*
Naruto - Volume 49 is completely in the can. I have tiffs and the lettered mag pages for vol 50 and have started the conversion--without the list of official changes to make. It's a risk to start without it, but experience tells me 85% of the changes will be easy text-only ones. I'm focusing on orange and pink pages only, of course. Let us hope that if I do have to revisit these for several hours of intensive artwork tweaking, it will only be once!
Natsume - I finished vol 4 three weeks ago. In fact, it's officially due this Wednesday. :B I don't have script yet for vol 5, but I do have tiffs. I've been working on the title pages. Natsume chapter title pages are logo and chapter number only--no individual chapter names like in Clay, Skip, or Naruto that require an official translation! Color chapter title pages in Natsume are the rule rather than the exception (only Nana had them more often), and those are always at least orange in difficulty, which will you tell why I'm tackling them now. :P I face drawing higher form Nyanko-sensei's beclawed and extra-furry foot on one title page. That will be a challenge! Vol 2 of Natsume is out, BTW.
New Titles 5 and 6 - They are officially back on the schedule!! These two I am also lettering with Shoujo Editor 3 (see below under Saiunkoku), and she has staggered all three titles' volumes to ensure I will only be lettering one book with her at a time. Is that not incredibly thoughtful??? I don't believe the licenses for these two have been officially announced yet, so we're stuck referring to them as New Title 5 and 6 for now. One day soon all will be revealed!
Saiunkoku - No script for vol 1 still, but like with Clay I'm expecting it any day now, along with her thoughts on the fonts she'd like me to use. I could be going font shopping, I don't know yet. *clasps hands together and gazes up at the manga no kami most beseechingly* If I must buy fonts, please let them be cheap! Please please please! For I am feeling very broke and no longer have the stamina to exist on ramen like a college student! *bambi eyes of pleading*
Skip Beat - I'm far ahead of schedule. ^^ The entire volume 22 is due June 23rd, and I only have about 40 pages left. All are yellow or green, and that means they are easy. As I said in my last shigoto update, this volume has been slightly more difficult than the previous ones, and even had a purple page. *pained expression* Once again thanks to a certain new supporting character who was venting her rage in her diary. *grimace* All the pages she scribbled (yes, there was definitely more than one. And seen multiple times!) were covered tone, too. Wheeee!!! *waves hands with much excitement* I watched the clock while letting. Took me 5 hours from start to finish!
That's it for this update, I think! Time for me to get to work. ^^ Kyoko is eyeing me from Tsukushi with much cool disatisfaction at my laziness today. *raspberries*
Omake: my fave grocery store now stocks Chai Tea-scented candles. Oh dear, this could be a problem. Sandalwood is now facing some extreme competition.
