Music! Good :D and Bad >:|

I just bought my firstest evarrrr legal mp3. Fittingly enough, it's even an anime theme: Beach tv ed17 "Hitohira no Hanabira (ヒトヒラのハナビラ)" by Stereo Pony. Normally, rather than buy an mp3, I would buy the actual CD soundtrack or themes collection and rip my own mp3 of my favorite tracks, but Bleach music is different. Of all the Bleach openings and endings I've heard in the anime, this is only the second one I've liked enough to pursue outside of watching an episode.

This is exactly the opposite of Naruto music, where I love almost every opening and ending and happily buy the theme collections for the extortionist prices required to import from Japan. The really interesting part?? Both the Bleach and Naruto anime are produced by the same anime studio, Pierrot. Curious how one show's music is generally NOT to my taste, and the other one almost always IS. ^^

I also bought a conventional (meaning non anime or JRock) music CD, My Darkest Days's debut album. Special edition with two bonus tracks! I first heard this group on the radio with their song "Porn Star Dancing". Okay, so the subject matter isn't very classy, but I loved the way the music was arranged and the singer's voice. (One thing about listening to foreign music: when you can't understand 3/4ths of what is actually being sung, you learn to appreciate the music for how it sounds). I looked up the song on Amazon, poked around, and found samples for the entire album. I liked it. :D I waffled on buying the actual CD and having to waiting for it but earning bonus tracks, or going mp3 and having instant bonus-track-less gratification. Amazon took the choice out of my hands, though, as when I checked on the album today, no mp3s available. Except for "Porn Star Dancing" as a ring tone Even the samples were gone. :| Thus, I bought the physical CD, and went to buy the Bleach mp3 before Amazon decided to yank it, too. *raspberries*

When I'm listening to the radio, I make note of songs I enjoy, and usually end up googling a couple lines of lyrics to identify them since I can never remember or miss the song info provided by DJs. :B I've discovered some excellent songs and groups that way, but that is going to be more difficult now...since Portland's only hard rock station suddenly switched to news radio. I've found an alternative station, and a new-classic-rock station, but they do not replace my dearly departed KUFO. T.T

Some of the songs I found through that station (and my subesquent lyrics googles) are "Indestructable" by Disturbed, "Headstrong" by Trapt, "Lifeline" by Papa Roach, "Paralyzed" by Finger Eleven, "If You Only Knew" and "The Crow and the Butterfly" by Shinedown, "World so Cold" by 3 Days Grace, and "New Divide" by Linkin Park.

Every time I drive now, I am continuously irritated by the lack of metal on my radio, and I end up flipping between the various thin options I'm now stuck with. I don't drive enough to justify upgrading my old-school car radio, but maybe I'll find a hard rock channel to stream on my laptop, for the days when I don't feel like audiobooks and am tired of my CD and mp3 collections. And to discover new music, of course. Anyone have a suggestion on where to start?? Preferably something light on the adware and popups. :P
