slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (Elegance with a sword)

a general update on everything, pretty much. ^^

Late Happy Thanksgiving, to my fellow Americans. I had a good holiday, myself. ^^ My friend [livejournal.com profile] knastymike wrangled an invite from a frequent poster to our Portland LJ comm, and [livejournal.com profile] inkytwist was also there, on her own merits. It was a huge dinner in a lovely home, surrounded by kind and intelligent people. The blackberry honey wine I picked up went over well, and while I was the only gluten-free person there, apparently my host was very pleased I'd brought home-made dinner rolls and pumpkin muffins. Even if the former weren't at their height, since they weren't warm upon being served. The food was delicious, and I had a great time.

Work is going steadily! I finished Natsume 12 a few days early, which is always good. Now I can complete Skip 28 and Clay 20. I've left off quite a few difficult pages in both of those until the vol of Natsume was finished, so it's time to hit it. At least I conquered the last pink page in the Skip book yesterday. Whew! Here's hoping the remaining orange pages in both books go down easily.

I just started the third volume in Robin Hobb's Liveship Traders trilogy, which I am VASTLY ENJOYING. Usually when I read a series, I take a break between volumes and read something else, to prevent burnout. I feel no need to do that here! I've decided I really like the youngest female lead, Malta. I'm really enjoying watching her mature from spoiled rich daddy's girl into a tough independent woman. It's awesome. My favorite thing about the books, though, is how Ms. Hobb changes her syntax when she switches from each character's POV. Her bratty kids are indeed very bratty and childish, her block-headed men live up to the description, her mature women hanging on to control of their lives by a thread are captivating, her sea serpents come across as alien creatures, and those are just some of the huge and varied cast. I must tip my hat to Ms. Robb. She is very good at her craft!

I am very excited, for in a day or two, I will have an early Giftmas present from my parents: my firstest evarrrr smart phone! A full keyboard! No more text messages limited to 160 characters! XD And the ability to use Word! That last one has me most pleased, for it means...I CAN WRITE ON MY PHONE!!!1!!11 OMG YES!!! I fully plan to be one of those anonymous people on the train, pecking away at my phone, writing naughty stories right out in public. *cackles*

Speaking of the arts, I have two projects to tell you about:

First, I am participating in my 2nd and final Big Bang of 2011, the [livejournal.com profile] journeystory Big Bang. I already have my fic chosen and artistic bunnies in my head! I went for a crossover between Sleeping Beauty and The Last Unicorn. :3 Rough draft is due Dec 1st, final pic Jan 4th. I am excited!!

Second, this year I decided to jump into the challenge that is Yuletide. For those who don't know, it's a fanfiction Secret Santa-style gift exchange for small fandoms only. We fill out a survey saying what fandoms and characters we want fic for (limit 4), then saying what fandoms and characters we will write for (unlimited), and a matching program finds each of us. Fics due Dec 22nd, 1,000 word minimum. Fics go up anonymously on the 25th, authors revealed Jan 1st. It seems so many of the amazing fics I've read have been products of Yuletide, and I am more excited to write than I am to receive. XD I already have my assignment and am banging out a rough outline. I can't let myself take forever and a day to write this, I have to finish on time and try to write as efficiently as possible. Yuletide is a fanfic challenge, and that's what my fic is being! I hope I can pull it off well enough that my recipient likes it, and maybe I'll like it, too. I shall try! *fighting pose*

That's it for this update, I guess! Time for me to get to work, and maybe bang out more rough fic outline or sketch some more on the crossover pic. ^^V
