slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (caffeine)

Various and sundry...

I post so little these days. It's not that I've abandoned LJ for Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr like so many have--because I don't post at any of those places, either. I just don't feel the need to talk as much as I once did. I guess.

Kakashi-the-kitten is at the vet, being removed from the gene pool and tagged for tracking by Big Brother. I'm grateful for both, as he's been really rambunctious the past few weeks, and keeps attempting to escape through the front door whenever I come home. With no more testosterone in his system, he should calm done somewhat and stop running me and Spicer-kitty ragged. And if he ever DOES escape, then I'll have a much better chance of recovering him with that microchip under his skin.

Anyway, Natsume 12 and Skip 28 are both done, except for corrections. At the moment, I'm wrapping up Clay 20, then I'll be officially without work until Naruto 59 or Skip 29 arrives, whichever happens first. With all four titles caught up to the Japanese release, and me being backup for Naruto anyway, it's probably going to be feast or famine in regards to my workload. Famine like now, with only one title, feast like a few weeks ago, with all four at once. The upcoming months will be most interesting.

I find it ironic that the one holiday season I won't be visiting the hometown in TX is the one where I will barely have any work to interfere. Of course. Also just watch: since I won't have to worry about weather interfering with my flights, it WON'T freeze or snow or otherwise grow nasty this holiday season. Never fails!

My fan commitments are coming along. I have the rough draft of the Journey Big Bang fanart done, and now with only Clay on my plate, I can work on it every day for at least an hour. The Yuletide fanfic story is also coming along nicely. I finished my super-rough outline and word dump of doom last night, and can now begin actually writing it in readable form.

I have been completely exhausted the past two days. IDK why, but maybe I picked up a bug while traipsing around Portland on Saturday, and my body is trying to fight it off. Speaking of venturing out into the big wide world...

Last Saturday I arranged a meetup with other fanfic authors in Portland. Two otheres were able to make it, and we had good times and even managed to write for an hour. ^^ My new friends helped me relax and work through the intimidated plot moment I was facing in my Yuletide fic, for which I am very grateful. We're going to meet up again in 2 weeks, then go see Sherlock 2 afterward. Speaking of which, I need to go buy my ticket now!

My credit card is smoking at the moment. I placed an order from CDJapan, and another from Powells.com. Of course, I realized the 25% off everything coupon for the latter expired YESTERDAY, much to my annoyance. Oops. I need to pester my father and sister for what they want for Giftmas.

With the upcoming conversion of Jump magazine to digital-only, and in interesting conversation with Naruto Editor about how this will change lettering and the future of comics and manga in general, I'm considering the ebook craze. Of all the options for ebook, how do I find one that will let me read as many formats and use proprietary comic/manga reading software as possible? I'm starting to think I just need to get an iPad and go with that.

If digital readers kill the beautiful manga page layout, which IMO is one of the best things manga has going for it over western comics, I will be...most disappointed.

I've barely read any fanfic lately, to make me use my spare time for writing my Yuletide fic and drawing the Journey fanart. I've been reading hard-copy prose instead. I'm on vol 3 of my fave new writer Sarah Rees Brennan's YA trilogy, The Demon's Surrender, which has been out for months and now I am finally reading. I enjoyed reviewing the previous two volumes, and this one is proving just as good. I am sad my fave ship will not happen, but oh well. Also, I admit the big push for me to finally read the third and last volume is because Yuletide will generate fanfic for the series. I wanna read it. :B

Sarah also has an upcoming book, co-authored with the talented Justine Larbalestier, Team Human. It's about a girl who protests all these supernatural boyfriends so popular with her friends these days. And with these two women penning it, it cannot fail to be completely amazing. Is it July yet??

Look, I actually managed to write an update. Yay!
