New Title revealed at last!!!

Now that it's been announced in the July issue of Shojo Beat, I can finally admit New Title's shourai. Of course, it's only fair that I make as big a deal about it as I did Naruto, so....New Title is actually....
Honey and Clover!!!!!!
That's right!!! I've begun this series from vol 1, and at the moment I'm almost half-way through vol 3. I started lettering towards the end of January. To be honest, I found out that Honey would be replacing Nana in the magazine only a few weeks into lettering. But of course, I couldn't say anything. X| I was rather glad about the replacement for purely selfish reasons, since this means I can keep my free subscription. ^^V It's also difficult to remain quiet about the Nana-to-Honey switch on the SB comm, since I know the true reason. I find everyone's guesses to be amusing, particularly the conspiracy theory ones. (And you can figure out the reason yourself by reading the editor's note in the July issue. It's rather obvious, actually.)

Interestingly, I was offered a choice of two new titles to letter last fall by Shoujo Editor #2: Honey and Haruka Naru no Toki. Shoujo Editor described Honey as a day-in-the-life school comedy, and Haruka as a fantasy epic along the lines of Esca and FY. Never having seen either titles' anime or read any scanlations, I debated which sounded easier, lettering and FX-wise. School life...versus epic fantasy. Hmmm. School life = homework and dating woes. Epic fantasy = spells and swordfights. Hmmm!

Oops. Imagine my surprise when I began to letter Honey and realized it was every bit as difficult as Skip. Hahaha!! The joke's on you, s2m!!! *snorfle*

Oh well. And come to find out, if I had chosen Haruka, I would have been able to keep my SB subscription anyway, since Haruka will be replacing my beloved Baby & Me this fall. I guess I'll find out then if Haruka really is more difficult than Honey.
If it isn't, s2m wil be rather irked.

For those unfamiliar with the title, a brief description. Honey is about five students in art college, though the true main character is a 2nd year student named Takemoto. He's a sweet, huggable guy. As of vol 3 we haven't seen any artwork by him except the model *spoiler bleep* he's building. The other two male main characters are Mayama-sempai, and Morita-sempai. Mayama is very tall, avoids conflict whenever possible, and is apparently an architecture major, though he does graphic design as well. Mayama is in his final year of school. Morita-sempai....is a force unto himself. His specialty is carving wood, and he's very very good...but he lacks focus. His main love in life is money, yet it's a comedic love, not scary at all. (Think Tamahome in FY.) Morita is also in his final year, but...his school situation is rather amusing. I'll let you guys find out in chapter one. ^^

The two girls are very different. I have mixed feelings about Hagu-chan. She's very small, cute, timid, and highly skilled. A college freshman. Thus far we've only really seen her excellent clay sculptures, but apparently she's a great painter as well. So why the mixed feelings about her??? Hmmm...I'm resentful of her innate artistic talent (I have to bust my ass), how everyone--particularly the guys--feel all instantly protective and fond of her (they ignored me in school...if I was lucky), and how she earns such good friends by simply being herself. (I seem scare to them away.) Thus, my mixed feelings towards Hagu-chan.

The other girl is Yamada Ayu. She's also a senior when the series begins. Ayu's specialty is throwing pots, or making clay bowls on a potter's wheel for you non-artsy folks. I really like Ayu...but the reasons are loaded with spoilers, so I shall remain silent. I will say, however, that Ayu is AWESOME!!! I guess she's my fave. ^^V

A sort-of main character is one of the school teachers, Hanamoto-sensei. I mention him here b/c the first time I saw him, my reaction was: OMG it's Spike from CowBe!!! XO Hanamoto-sensei looks exactly like him!!! Sensei is very kind, so I suppose this means Spike is the evil twin. ^^

Time in this series moves very fast. As of volume 3, a year and a half has already passed from when the story began in vol 1. Unlike Nana, where one day can last for an entire volume... In general, you can equate each chapter to a month's worth of timeline.

I am enjoying Honey, it's fun to watch the characters age and progress. I do have one not-so-small gripe, though. The omake pages. OMG, the omake pages! The horror! The nightmares!!!! I thought Nana omake pages were bad--but oh no! They are nothing compared to Honey!!! *dies* You won't be able to see the omake until the GN comes out, since they don't print omake pages in the mag. Honey beings in September, so volume 1 should be out around April. That's me guessing on the date, BTW.

Ahhhh! How's that for an intro, eh?? From this point on, New Title will be referred to by its true name: Honey. Let us all rejoice!!
