Modotta!!! XD
Ahhhh, I'm back!!! I hadn't realized how much LJ is a part of my stress relief day until I cut myself off for the sake of Harry 7. Speaking of which, I finished the book at about 5 AM this morning. I'll save my musings for another post, when more of you have had a chance to come back yourselves. Today, I shall talk about my Harry 7 purchasing experience, which of course, is spoiler-free.
I didn't begin reading Harry until vol 4 was already out in hardback. Vol 5 I preordered online, and vol 6 I picked up at midnight--in Wal-Mart. I decided I wanted to buy the final Harry volume in a real book store. So I preordered it almost two months ago at my "local" B&N (local = 35 miles away. It's the closest one...) With Kiokonai in Hawaii, her younger sister away for the weekend, not having spoken to Rei since Kiokonai left (I called and left a message, but she has yet to return it) and not hearing from Yuumei for months (see Rei's parentheses for an explanation) until a few days beforehand, I was facing going to the bookstore alone. Which would have been fine, except I'd rather have gone with my friends. I made the mistake of whining voicing my sadness in front of my parents, who of course offered to go. My mom had to get up early on Sat, but my dad was available. What could I say?? "I'd rather go alone than with my dad. I like you dad, but that's kind of embarrassing..." Um, no. So yes. I attended the Harry 7 release party with my dad! Whoooooooo! But actually, we had fun anyway. :P
We arrived an hour early, just before 11, and had to park in the boonies. The store was FULL. I've never seen a book store that FULL. Since we would be in the store for a while, i decided it would be a good chance to pick up a manga book, to try something new for free. I made my way through the hordes to the manga section and began to browse. A girl of about 12 or 13 was looking over the manga as well. She reminded me very much of myself at that age (except she was much less overweight than I was...) and I struck up a conversation. Before long, her friend joined us and rather overshadowed the first girl. X| To make this a bit shorter, they were fangirls, particularly the 2nd one, and I was trapped. For 15 minutes--and no way did I even consider revealing my job. Particularly after I learned Girl #2 was zonkers about Skip. X_x I finally told Girl #2 (and her quieter friend--who I thought was much more interesting) that I had other sections I wanted to browse. So I managed to escape. Whew! I took with me xxxHolic vol 9, which was the only new release I wanted that they had. (No Ouran 9 or Kaze Hikaru 6. Ttaku mo.) and One Piece, which I've heard much of, marveled at the completely weird art, yet never read or seen.
Dad and I found a quieter place against the wall, and two chairs to sit in. He flipped through a giagantic book on the world's oceans, while I visited the world of One Piece for the first time. The crowds, meanwhile, were getting thicker and thicker. A group of about 5 teenaged guys were walking around the store, carrying a small stereo playing the 1st Harry movie's soundtrack, and trying to get people to jump, cheer, and shout out "Harry Potter". Thankfully they never really left the central aisle, which is where most of the people were. (Those who had not preordered and were already waiting in the regular-customer line.) I suspect I had caught the eye of one boy, who walked past me several times while making eye contact, and asked if he could take one of the chairs not being used. Of course, maybe he'd just never seen someone not 13 years old reading One Piece before. He was rather cute and huggable, but couldn't have been more than 16 years old. A little too young for me...but it's fun to think I caught his eye. *^^* Me and my pink hair! Heeee! (It's faded to a coppery pink, BTW.) And I have to give him points for not being intimidated by my Dad. Though he might not have realized I knew the gray-haired and balding man sitting next to me. (Sorry Dad, but that description is very accurate.)
I only saw one good cosplayer, which was an excellent Hermoine. Most people in costume had on a robe, or a wizard's hat, or a toy wand. So that was a bust. I was hoping for a really great Snapey or Draco...anyway, this store didn't have any real events. And the store was a MESS. People leaving trash and books everyone, and Starbucks coffees from the attached cafe. Ugh! I'm glad I don't work there...and I'm glad I didn't leave any trash behind!
The final 10 seconds to midnight countdown was fun. Then they called us in groups up to pick up our books. When the music-come-on-everyone-SCREAM!!! group walked by, the ringleader held up his copy of the book and everyone cheered for him. --;;;; I was in Gold Group C, so I still had to wait. The line was immense anyway when they called for my group, so Dad waited in his chair and I stood in line for our 2 copies. Some bozo knocked over a display right next to me as he ran by. I caught it and set it upright. One of the store employees thanked me. *s2m's good deed of the day*
After I bought my 2 Harrys (one for me, one for my Mom) and my 2 manga books (yes, I decided I liked One Piece enough to buy it) I found Dad against the wall. The store was half-way empty, and seemed almost silent after the roar of the crowds. This was when you could really tell how trashed the poor place was. D=
My father loves audiobooks, he and my mom listen to them while driving to and from work, and Dad listens to them all the time in his office, and sometimes just for fun when he's laying on the couch. So he had reserved the audiobook from the library, and had to wait until it was available for him to pick up. I offered to read out loud on the way home. So I did!! I even did the voices, or tried to, anyway. We made it through the first chapter and beginning of the 2nd. Dad drove the last 2 miles very very slowly. Heeee. ^^
And that is s2m's tale of her corner of the Potterocalypse!!! Did anyone else have any adventures?? If you've already blogged about it, be sure to tell me so I can go read!! XD

Oho, and this is my new journal theme. I was tired of the Sunset over Kyoto one, and I like the sushi pic's design. Those California rolls look really yummy....*drools* I also went back to the fox mood icons, since I was tired of the Goth Girl and I didn't care for any of the others. I think I need to make my own mood theme. As if I didn't have enough to do, ne???
And I have a guilty secret: I wanted to finish One Piece, rather than start Harry. D= What kind of Harry fan am I?? *is horrified* But I resisted the temptation of Luffy, I read Harry like a good Pottery fan. *nods* I'll finish One Piece later...
