Utena can be such a troublesome girl. :|
This morning, I decided it was time to reboot my computers. I leave them on 24-7, mostly b/c they'd only be turned off when I'm asleep, and I always have torrents running on Utena anyway. But today, I thought a reboot was in order. So I did. Tsukushi breathed a sigh of relief and was immediately ready to get back to work. But Utena...
And yes, I named my computers. :P~~~~~~~~
Utena can be rather temperamental. On a previous reboot, her mouse and keyboard ports stopped working and apparently died. Thankfully the USB alternatives saved me with the help of an adapter and a new mouse (long live trackball!). And of course, there's the video card driver fiasco of last year, which was largly brought on by MSMessenger Live. (This was verified by my cousin, sister, and the sister's live-in BF, who alll know a great deal more about computers than me. Particularly the cousin.) Anyway, go online, find new drivers for the video card, install them, and everything's good. Oh, and I uninstalled MSMessenger Live and refuse to go near it or its vanilla little brother again. (Hence one more reason I can't chat online.)
Can you guess where this is going??? That's right!! Somewhere in the shutdown/reboot process, Utena lost her audio card drivers. This means no mp3s or anime eps for s2m, and that does not make s2m a happy elf. Rebooting again didn't fix the problem, and I have no idea what happened to the card's installation CD. But yay, Control Panel was able to find the original copy of the drivers hidden in the depths of Utena's main hard drive, and yay again, that Utena is whole once more.
Though now I'm wondering what will she'll lose next. Hmmmm. I need to track down my installation CD for Photoshop, JIC. *pokes Utena* Stop being so temperamental!
