slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (Elegance with a sword)

I hate grayscale right now. Just so you know.

Urgh. If I had a designation for page difficulty higher than pink/Page from Hell, my current page of Captive 2 would definitely qualify. It's a review of volume 1, with tons of floating text, cute captions, chibi characters, sparklies, flowers, vines, and hand-written FX and asides. Which would be bad enough on their own. Except this page was printed in color, painted with markers or watercolor over EVERYTHING. No white space at all.  And as a black and white page of manga, all those pretty colors are turned into dots. *headdesk*

I've been working on it all day. I take breaks and letter pages from other titles, but I always come back to it. Urgh. If only I could let myself work half-assed....*headdesk* The arrival of  Captive 2 is why I've become silent again. --;;;

Anyway, how about a Shigoto Update?

Captive Hearts - I'm 5 days into lettering vol 2. This volume is longer than usual--a full 206 pages--I lost a few days to delayed script and Japanese page delivery, so even with trip time, I have to letter 4.14 pages a day to make the deadline. (Obviously I'm not going to make it today.) And we all know how bad Captive is...though vol 2 is slightly easier to my eye than vol 1 was. Slightly. Vol 1 is just finished today. (One down, four to go...) Trip time granted, sorta. Moving time not yet applicable, as it will depend on vol 3, whose schedule is still up in the air.

Claymore - Vol 13 is done and in the can, so to speak. Lettering on vol 14 will begin around the end of July, translator on time. We've caught up with Japan finally, but instead of easing the pressure and deadlines, apparently that makes it worse. Since fans will be clamoring for the newest vol the moment it's available to buy in Japan. Of course, Viz isn't sent the page files until Japan is done with them, which means you'll have a delay anyway. You know, for the translation and lettering and publishing and shipping the books to stores and all that. But if you read between the lines, this means I was able to negotiate for trip and moving time. Heeee. ^^

Honey - I'm about one chapter into vol 9. I think vol 4 just started appearing in SB, so we're way far ahead. Only one volume left after this one! Thankfully, vol 9 starts off with tons of green and yellow pages. They help balance out the horror of Captive. ^^;;; Let us hope the stretch of easy Honey lasts. Oh yes,and b/c we're so far ahead, Honey is now my most flexible title deadline-wise, so I was granted trip time and plenty of moving time too. XD

Nana - 1/4th through vol 15. This vol has several pages of flashbacks, like vol 14. :P I made a very foolish font choice for flashbacks in vol 1, and now I grit my teeth every time I have to deal with them. Oops. *sighs* My own fault...I'll have to rant about it one day in a dedicated post, and you can laugh at my n00b mistake. :P Since Nana went to straight-to-GN status, the publishing schedule is catching up to me, so I couldn't be given extra time for trip and move. But!! I do still have 18 weeks per volume until the catchup is complete, so I didn't really need any extra time anyway. ^^V

Naruto - As cheered about in a previous post, all lettering for my Naruto is finished. I'm now waiting on corrections for vol 35. Corrections for vol 38 should arrive in a month or so. No new volumes lined up for me to letter. And HAY--my next Shippuuden vol, #32, will be appearing in Shonen Jump in the Sept and Oct issues. NA will officially meet Sai. Heeeeeee. With no new vols to letter, trip and move time wasn't needed.

Skip - I'm a few pages short of finishing the first half of vol 17. This vol contains two Pages from Hell of note. But thankfully they AREN'T a b/w color page. ^^;;; They're the results of the first popularity poll I've ever seen in Skip!!! The top three are predictable, though I was surprised at the lower results. I would have voted for.....hmmm. I do like Mr. Yashiro (Ren's Manager) but he's almost too nice and kind of boring. I might have to vote for The New Villain. He's evil but not flawless. I do enjoy his scenes, I admit. Oh yes, and trip and moving time granted! :D

Wanted - Remember the Pirate Manga, aka New Title 2? Nothing's going on here with it, but the preview will be appearing in the August issue of SB. Who doesn't love the idea of pirates by Hino Matsuri??

My first laptop computer arrived yesterday. An XP machine, b/c no way in hell am I touching Vista. Now I can leave the house to GET OUT and work away in a Starbucks or something. I'm pretty sure I'll name her "Usagi". I'd like to get a small 5 x 7 drawing tablet for her, which I plan to dub "Luna". Heeee. :3 Of course, this also means I now have three computers. ^^;;;; Let my geeky status be known!!!!! *flings out arms in acceptance*

I've finally broken Tsuwabuki. I slammed off the backspace key by typing too fast and furious, and it must take special tool or something to get it back on. I've reattached many a popped keyboard key, but Tsukwabuki isn't your normally constructed keyboard. Woe. It's only taken me two days to become accustomed to not using the backspace. I do a lot of highlighting and retyping. Heh. :P Tsuwabuki-kuuuuuuun....gomen.....T.T But at least I didn't drop him.
