I'm in Portland! And I didn't get lost once. ^^V Normally I'm terrified of driving in heavy traffic, and it's only worse when I don't know where I'm going, but today navigating the Portland highway maze was so easy for me that I shocked myself. XD Woooo!! Amazing what 3 solid days of driving in varying conditions does for your endurance! I did arrive too late to move in today, so I'm in a hotel a few blocks from my apartment. Which is why I'm online tonight, instead of having to wait until Thurs evening, when the fios guys will hopefully have Utena and Tsukushi up and running.
I'm very very glad the drive is over. I was more than ready for someone else to drive while I gaped at the scenery or snoozed, but no such luck. T.T Thankfully I had cell phone reception all along the final 4 hours of the drive, so I called five people to chat. Heh!
I ended up driving over 800 miles yesterday, but not intentionally. I burned through Salt Lake City and suburbs by pacing the traffic and not looking at my speedometer. Don't ask me what the place looks like, as I was focused on not being in a wreck. O.o Then I had a chance to stop and fill up and find a hotel in one handy exit, but I had a whole quarter tank left, and it was only 9 PM or so, so I pushed it. And now we have a Public Service Announcement: Mountains quite often have very few exits, and of the exits they DO have, you aren't always going to find gas stations or hotels. :| Finally finally, just inside the Idaho/Utah border, I found a station and filled up. There was a motel next door, but I drove by without stopping. It looked like the setting for a Stephen King novel. And being the single woman in the story, I would have died horribly. So I decided it was worth going on to the next town, which was 75 miles onward. Wheee! I did find a place, but no wireless net there.
I had several more noteworthy adventures--all having to do with driving, of course--but I think I'll save them for later. I'm relaxing in my Portland hotel room, Spicer-kitty is trying to stalk the neighbors who are rattling around in their room, and I plan on taking a nice long and hot bath tonight. I hope to be signing leases and whatnot at 9:30 tomorrow morning!
So! Until Thursday, then. ^^V
