Allow me to don my anime fangirl hat, 'cause it's GEEK TIME! XD
I guess the past few days have been more stressful than I thought, so that plus being back on the 1400 calorie a day diet wagon meant I was a zombie yesterday. I shifted into bare-minimum work mode (only did Captive and Nana) and ended up watching four episodes of anime. That's more anime than I normally watch in a week these days!
First on the list was the last Dattebayo fansubbed ep of Naruto Shippuuden, #91. A very sad moment b/c this is the end of my lovely, saved to hard-drive, free, high quality, fresh-from-Japan Naruto, but I was distracted by the new ending song.
O.o Wow. Of course, since it's rather silly and involves a dorky dance, Gai-sensei and Lee-kun were the only guys dancing with Naruto. We can't have any of the other Naruto side characters act goofy and shake their hips, now can we?? Only Gai and Lee-kun don't care how silly they look and have no kakkoi reputation to maintain! *was very irritated* I'd have been overjoyed if Sasuke or Neji were getting in on the fun, but noooooo! Only the comic relief characters are allowed!!! Nnrrgh! If we overlook the dancing, then we're left with the actual song. I admit the Naruto ending themes are hit and miss with me, but even the weirder ones usually win me over with time. I may not rip them into mp3s for addition to my music library, but I hum along as I watch the ep. THis one??? HIGHLY UNLIKELY. Ugh.
I also have to wonder at choosing to start offering brand-new Shippuuden eps for pay download with the start of this particular arc. Why??? Because it's FILLER. No way am I going to pay $2 an ep for filler. I'll wait the extra week and watch for free via Naruto.com. Urgh again. That being said...
Of all the anime that has ever been made, only Naruto filler could ever pull off a gay...crossdressing...giant...toad. Complete with bad makeup.
That toad is probably the only reason I'm half-way looking forward to watching the next ep. His seiyuu must be having a blast with the acting. Being all flirty and genki with Jiraiya then turning mean and uber-butch whenever having to talk with Naruto. *snerk* Hahahaha!! XD I need to look that seiyuu up on the ANN encyclopedia and find out what else he's done. X3
Oh yes, and interestingly, they've invoked filler half-way through my Naruto vol 38. Seriously! And WTH,they cut out the canon yaoi moment! NOOOOOO!!! To be honest, that was done a few eps ago, but still. I had to whine about it. *sulks* I really wanted to see that in the anime... Keiji!!!!!
I also watched my newest download of Skip. Two fansubbing groups had/have been subbing Skip, one doing a fast-and-dirty sub, and another doing a slow but high-quality sub. I've been downloading the fast version as the eps are available for JIC reasons, but actually preferring the slower high-quality version. That's what I watched last night, the newest HQ Skip sub of ep 7. The fast subber has stated they are dropping Skip 1/2 through b/c of the series available for purchase on Crunchyroll. The slower HQ subber has remained mum about it; they say they don't know themselves if they're going to stop or not. Of course, *I* want them to keep going, as I doubt Crunchyroll will let me save the ep to my hard drive, and I just don't have much faith in licensed subs when it comes to all the little details like signs, song lyrics, and everything else. (Execpt AnimEigo. AnimEigo is awesome. I wish they relesed more shows...you can count on AnimEigo!) And WTH????!? A bazillion new shows released in Japan this season, and only a tiny handful will be released on Crunchyroll, and one of them is SKIP?!?! Naze yo??! *headdesk* I suppose it's a compliment in way, but still.
Setting all the fansub or no controversy aside, let's talk Skip story arcs. As of ep 7, we just wrapped up the Acting Challenge, in which Kyoko goes tete-a-tete with Ruriko and Mr. Tsuruga over the tea ceremony scene. That brings us half-way through manga vol 3. The preview shows the next anime arc will match the next manga arc: when Kyoko helps Maria understand her father, and thus Kyoko and Moko are able to start taking acting classes. Kyoko finds her job as Bo the chicken and ends up becoming semi-friends with Mr. Tsuruga, then she and Moko win the Curara Drink commercial, which leads to Kyoko's music video and fun with Sho, which leads to Dark Moon and fun with Mr, Tsuruga, etc etc. How far is the anime going to go?? These days shoujo series almost never make it past 26 eps, and here we're at ep 7 and only half-way through vol 3. Everything in Skip builds up to something else, so if they cut an arc out for time's sake in the anime, then they're going to have to do some fancy writing to pull off later events. Or they're going to have to just end the series somewhere. That could mean two things: either they pick a dramatic moment to end the show without answering all the questions that are left, like what happened with the FuruBa and Nana anime, or they just up and make their own ending, like with Clay's anime. (Don't get me started on Clay's anime ending.)
Of course, there's always the chance that maybe, just maybe, Skip could go on for a 2nd season...(I would LOVE to see Reino enter the story! Kyaa! X3) but that is so very unlikely. Nana managed two seasons, but Nana is a colossal force in Japan. Skip? Not so much. *sigh* It's only shounen titles that last for over 75 eps these days. :| Stupid shounen hits of massiveness!! *kicks them*
And now, Bleach! I've never mentioned the Bleach anime before for the simple reason that I wasn't watching it. I've been enjoying the manga for a couple years and am all caught up with the licensed release, including pouncing on the new chapters in NA's Shonen Jump every month. Indeed, those new chapters are why I picked up the Bleach anime, because...because...Grimmjow's smile seduced me. *sheepish grin* What can I say? His oh so pretty body helps, too. :B Kubo-sensei is just so talented at drawing manly bishounen! Even crazy psychopathic killers. :P~~~~~
I poked around on Wiki a year ago and saw that Bleach ep 110 = the start of the Visored story arc, which is where Grimmie enters the scene. So I began downloading from there. Took FOREVER to catch up on eps, though I didn't start watching until a few weeks ago. Yes, I have a 100 ep backlog of Bleach alone! *laughs* Anyway, it's such a shock to see the Bleach characters move on screen, as for me they've always been static manga drawings. Reminds me of when I first started watching the Naruto anime. So weird to see characters I know well in black and white suddenly move and talk! *is dazed*
I was surprised to see Bleach is animated by Studio Periot. Along with Naruto. O.o Whoa! That place must be hauling in the money by the truckload, since they are responsible for two of the biggest anime series currently out there. =0 (Both shounen anime, of course. *kicks them again*)Leave some room for the shoujo shiny!
Thus far the animation quality of Bleach has been typical tv-level. I'm looking forward to a great fight scenewith Grimmie when they pull out the stops and really give us some animation eye candy to marvel at.
I found plenty of seiyuu surprises, but by far the biggest was Hayami Shou as Aizen. Hayami Shou-sama is right next to Ishida Akira-sama and Shinozawa Kaneto-sama as My All-Time Favorite Seiyuu. Hayami Shou = Wolfwood, Dr. Muraki, Max in the original Macross (beat that, suckers!), Orson in the Lodoss oav, and the role that propelled him into my eternal devotion: Kouji-sama in Zetsuai and Bronze. *dies* Why does he have to play the villain in Bleach?!? *flails* At least Aizen is a magnificent nasty villain, I'll give him that. Still. T.T Kouji-sama....*sniffles*
BTW, one of the reasons I love Hayami Shou so much is that he can SING. Well. Heeeeee. *is a sucker for men who can sing*
Wow, it's been a long time since I've geeked out here. XD It's fun to indulge my inner fangirl and go crazy. Time for me to get back to work today, as I'm all genki now. ^^V I think I'll fire up my fave Hayami Shou as Kouji-sama song, Dou Sureba Ii, from the 2nd Zetusai soundtrack, and get to it. X3 Kyaaa! Sing to me, Kouji-sama!!! *swoons*
