*facepalm*

This morning, after my hour of wake-up time, I scooped up two packages I needed to mail and tromped to my car. I would have preferred to walk to the post orifice, but that would have been an hour and a half round trip, and I can't afford to lose that much work time or pay the zombie price later. I needed to drive my car anyway.

In I hop, start her, sit there for a couple minutes to warm up (it was 26 degrees outside), and head out. Apparently I wasn't awake yet, as when I was turning left out of my complex I notice a minivan turning left into the opposite entrance of mine, and instead of stopping and backing up to get out of their way, I slowed, then hit the gas and swerved around them. (I have no excuse here, I was clearly in the wrong.) I scurried down the street, wondering why when I looked for traffic I didn't see the other car, and made my way to the highway.

I needed to drive Rei for at least half an hour, and part of that at highway speeds. I merge with the little traffic and head west. My plan: to go to my west-most library's exit, then drive back east to the post orifice on the pretty residential and business streets. I mosey along at the speed limit, pacing the guy in front of me and glad I wasn't alone in not wanting to speed, my exit comes up but it's too soon for my time frame, and I continue on to the next. I take it, and decide to turn north, which I've never driven on that stretch of road before. It's a narrow two-lane farm road, quite pretty, with fields and snowy hills and things all around. I reach a T intersection and suddenly realize that I forgot my phone. O.o

I don't like driving without my phone, it makes me nervous. Immediately I decide to turn around, but there are bicyclists coming along the T's crossbar, so I go right and keep an eye out for a driveway or wide part of the road to turn on. There aren't any, and of course when I DO find a sort-of-driveway into a field, there are either big ditches on either side or oncoming traffic. :/ I turn left at a stop sign, find a wide spot to turn around with only normally-sized ditches, complete my turn, and head back.

I remember my way to the highway, merge, take my library exit, enjoy the drive through the pretty streets, and end up stuck in a right-turn-only lane. It's only a couple blocks from my post orifice of choice, which is on a through street. I decide to find it the back way and take the forced right right. La la la, I drive through shopping centers and wind around housing developments and condos, and notice there's a line of thick trees between me and the direction of my post orifice. This means either a park, a large creek, or both. In other words: no crossing it. I make my way back out to the side street I'd been forced to take and reach the post orifice the normal way. I park, turn off Rei, grab the bag of packages and reach for my purse--which isn't there. O.o

Clearly I was NOT yet awake enough to depart on my drive and post office quest.

I make my way home--very careful to not get in a wreck since I have no phone and no drivers license or proof of insurance--park in my spot, stomp around to my stairs and up, grab my purse where it was innocently waiting for me on the counter, and walk--not drive--across the street to the UPS store. I'll pay the extra $5 to mail my packages there if it means avoiding me having to drive anywhere else!

Come to find out, shipping UPS was $5 cheaper than priority mail, so blah. The package is going via the big brown truck. :P

Today I am a danger to myself and others, and thus need to keep myself constrained safely inside my apartment. GUH.
