30 Day Fanfiction Meme, day 22!
22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you’ve thought about doing? And if not, why not?
I have participated in three big bangs, but all were done as an artist. ^^ I liked my 2nd and 3rd experiences, as the authors communicated with me about their fic and answered my questions. My 1st big bang, the author didn't finish her fic and stopped talking to me half-way through. The BB mods required two pieces per fic, so my laborious Buffy/Dean pics were all by their lonesome. T.T At least they get some love on DA. I have yet to post them to my AO3 account. Along with my 2nd BB pic, the Last Unicorn/Sleeping Beauty crossover. The HP Hermione/Snape pic IS up on AO3, and is my most popular work there by far. (No doubt all the traffic coming in via the link on the fic it's for!)
I doubt I will ever write for a big bang. Too much pressure to produce a lot of words in a short amount of time. I enjoy the art aspect instead. I would like to participate in a reverse big bang at some point (that's art first, then fic written for it), but I never hear about the until it's too late. :/ Or they are for a fandom I have no interest in. *sigh*
I have written fic for a fest, though! The past two years, I have participated in Yuletide, and I fully plan to do it again this year. :3 I became interested first for the prestige. I mean, so many great fics I'd read through were for written something called "yuletide", so I googled and discovered what that meant. The first year I understood, I was too intimidated. But I kept thinking about it, and the next year I signed up and did it! I rose to the challenge (and whooo boy was it a challenge!) and write a fine fic, and received two awesome little fics in return. Then my 2nd year, I also had a great time, and received another awesome little fic in return!
I suppose in addition to the prestige of being a Yuletide Participant, it's also the short word count requirement, as compared to a BB. I mean, 1k minimum written in 6 to 8 weeks isn't that bad. The fic you receive in return is a definite bonus. A fic written to your request, with your chosen characters and fandom! Ahhh, such joy! XD And there's this whole fun culture around Yuletide, too. The write-ins are great! :3
And yes, I will be in Yuletide this year, if at all possible! Kyaa! XD
