Jurassic World: Dominion, hell yeah!
Monday afternoon, I went to the matinee showing of Jurassic Word: Dominion, which is the 6th and final (gap!) installment of the Jurassic Park franchise. I've seen every JP film in the theater, including the original film on opening weekend. I was 16, and the old hometown theater on the own square had rented a spotlight for the event. They showed the movie on the single theater to the right of the lobby, the one with the most advanced sound system and the fancy running lights down the center aisle. Jurassic Park was incredible, and became a family favorite of ours to watch. 🤩
Spoilers for JW:D below!
My ranking for the entire franchise, from best to worst, is 1, 4, 3, 6, 5, and finally 2. Five and six are interchangeable, but 6 wins because of so many characters having great moments re: the first film, and/or redeeming themselves. But 5 did have a more cohesive plot.
Plot is my main quibble about JW:D. It was overly complicated and rather all over the place. They tried to make it work with the long running time of 2.5 hours, and it did, but it could have been so much better. The cinematography didn't live up to the potential, but that really hasn't happened since the first film. There's less dino screen time (to be fair I haven't used a stopwatch to actually check, but it feels that way), and a LOT less death-by-dino. Only one person is really chomped in a graphic way (he was a bad guy), the rest are rather taken out in long shots in the background.
I can recall 4 new dino species, which were all fun. ^^ My one main regret, though, beyond the flaily plot and focus on the humans, is...not enough Blue. NEEDS MOAR BLUE. ALL THE BLUE. TAKE BLUE WITH YOU TO RESCUE YOUR KIDS, OWEN AND CLAIRE!
