I just had a Naruto epiphany regarding Sasuke and his older brother.
Extreme spoilers for Naruto manga vol 25 and anime well beyond ep 100...
I'm lettering the flashback scenes, and Sasuke just came home late from school to find all the Uchiha dead. He catches a glimpse of Itachi on top of an electric pole, but he doesn't really see it's a person up there. Sasuke runs home, hears his dad yell at him not to come inside the house, hears someone being killed, and opens the door to see his parents freshly dead, and Itachi looming over them.
Which means....Itachi waited for Sasuke to come home before he killed them. He wanted Sasuke to know he was the murder, and he wanted to do it practically in front of the boy. He didn't leave Sasuke alive on a whim, as I originally thought, he planned all of this--including the finale with their parents--to force Sasuke onto his level so he could finally fight someone worthy. OMG.
This might be old news to all of you, but it's a shock to me. I never realized the full meaning of the events in that flashback, nor how evil and horribly manipulative this proves Itachi to be.
OMG. No wonder Sasuke is so messed up. D= It's a wonder he didn't go insane.
And the pages where Sasuke realizes all of this are next in line for me to letter. Ghaaaaa!! O_o *shudders*
This realization places Itachi in the same level as Nakago, from FY. In all of the fiction I have read and watched in my life, I consider Nakago as the Most Evil of All. I mean, he deliberately let Yui-chan believe she was raped (when the very idea made her suicidal), he killed countless people directly with his sword/magic and indirectly as a general in the army of Kutou...all for the sake of personal revenge on the Kutou Emperor. Itachi killed every single one of his relatives except his little brother, all to torment said brother enough so Itachi could finally discover just how good a ninja he really is. O_o
Which is worse?? I can't decide. D=
