That's the ticket, laddie....
To be blunt, I've been feeling rather fat lately. I noticed my collarbones don't stick out as much as they normally do, and I can't feel my shoulder blades as well, either. So I faced the music and stepped on the scale with much dread. Yep. 143. I've gained 3 pounds of fat. X|
It's obvious that drastically reducing my calorie intake no longer works for me, based on my now-revealed-to-be failure. Of course I have to lessen the calories (since this gain was brought on by 4 bouts of overreating in the space of a week), just not nearly as much. So instead of aiming for 1250 or so, I'm going for 1400 or thereabouts. A reduced amount, but not enough to send me into worse starvation mode.
But the big thing, the big thing that I've been neglecting ever since January when Work Hell descended, is exercise. Instead of running 5 days a week, I've been doing good to make it 4, and it's usually more like 3. As you all know, I've been soooo tired lately that I'll last about 15 minutes of running and then walk the remaining 30. Of course, walking is better than nothing, but it isn't exactly running, is it?
So I need to both return to my former running glory, and increase the intensity.
I've tried adding jumping jacks to my run a few times earlier, but I never continue them for more than 10 minutes into my session. Today I had a eureka moment as to why. I decided to try adding them again. And after I walked my first lap, I did 10 jumping jacks, then began to run. Those jumping jacks were easy...and it occurred to me. Of course, I had just begun exercising so I had lots of energy, but still. My previous attempts had placed the jumping jacks after my 3/4ths of a lap of running. I would run, do the jumping jacks, then walk the remaining fourth. So today, I followed my eureka moment and tried moving the jumping jacks to the beginning of my running section, when my legs and lungs would be rested by my 1/4th a lap of walking. And it worked! I made it the whole 45 minutes!! XD What's really exciting is that when I maintain my 3-to1 walk/run ratio, I hit the wall about 35 minutes or so in, which leaves me 10 minutes of surpassing it. But with the jumping jacks added, 10 at a time, I reached the wall at 20 minutes!! So I had 25 minutes of euphoric running high!! BOOM, baby!! XD
Now if only I can keep this up. ^^V Mina-san, wish me luck!! I still want to make it to 130 pounds!!!
