Work Hell: shoujo style.

This is a first. Every other time I've been trapped in Work Hell, I had Naruto, Clay, or both on my roster. This time it's pure shoujo, with the usual suspects. I didn't take on a 5th title or anything.

You see....remember how I mentioned Nana 16, my current vol, had the Nobu bonus story at the end? To make for an extra-long volume at 250 pages?? I still have to letter those extra 50 pages as part of the 2nd half in the usual time-frame of 8 weeks. To make the deadline, I have to letter 6 pages of Nana a day. Ouch.

And then we have the uber-hard Captive. I'll be starting vol 4 tomorrow, and I have slightly less than 7 weeks to letter. Normally I have 8 weeks per book, but we're skating just above critical deadlines with Captive thanks to my move, so now I'm paying the price. As a small bit of good fortune, Captive vol 4 is "short" for the series, being only 186 pages. (Vols 1-3 were all just over 200 each.) Yay. SE 4 said if I needed an 8th week it should be okay, since apparently I require less corrections than most letterers. (Perhaps this stems from my ability to read Japanese.)

Then...we have the Honey factor. In this final volume, the mangaka really went crazy, particularly in the 2nd half of the book. Tons and tons of difficult pages. They aren't all pink or even all orange, but the orange dots do tend to add up. I admit, I'm looking forward to the end of the series. Just so I can have more spare time. O.o I thought of taking a day off and not having to pay for it later sounds lovely. You have no idea how jealous I am when I read your posts about how much fun you had on your weekends and holidays and whatnot. *blows raspberries* I love my job, but it's time to take some precautions so I won't become burned out. *shivers in horror*

Skip at least is free of stress at the moment. *knocks on wood* I'm only a few days away from finishing vol 18. I might have a mini Skip vacation while SE2 tweaks the script for 19 and the File Prep Company Who Doesn't Save Me As Much Time As I Had Hoped does their thing to the Japanese tiffs. I'm able to enjoy the anime now. I guess this means I've accepted the lower animation quality and have chosen to go with it. I was, however, VERY disappointed with Lory's grand entrance in ep 2. WOW. That was some serious fail. Poor, poor Skip anime... T.T

Clay, since a shigoto update isn't complete with it: the Butt Shot volume (#13) should be out in a couple days! Though I imagine most stores will already have it on the shelf, since they don't seem to pay much attention to street dates when it comes to manga. I finished lettering and corrections for vol 14 a week ago. Clay Editor guestimates lettering on the next vol, 15, should begin sometime in March. Wow, it seems so far away! Perhaps once Honey is done and I've recovered a bit, I can take on some Naruto chapters in the meantime! Yay!!! I miss Foxy Boy and Angst Muffin.

To be fair, this bout of Work Hell isn't nearly as bad as it could be. I'm just really feeling the stress right now. I seriously doubt I'll be able to take a day off for Thanksgiving, but maybe I can do a half-day or something. Meh.

!!!! Whoa! Edward (my UPS) just saved me!!! My power cut out for about 10 seconds. O.o WTH, it isn't storming outside! I'd been wondering if Edward was still working, since the current here is so steady compared to back home. (No brownouts and such here. No stupid rattlers frying themselves in the power grid houses and shorting things, either. Yes, that happens.) I guess now I know he still works! *pats Edward with her foot* Good job! <3 A UPS is a wise investment for the serious computer user. *nods*
