I officially end this bout of Work Hell. ^^
Like the subject says, I'm no longer in Work Hell! Nana 19, Clay 15, and Natsume 1 are all finished, and Naruto 46 and Skip 20 are both under control. I'm already a few pages into Nana 20 and prelettering Skip 21. Planning ahead DOES work! In the works of one of my fave Disney songs, "Be prepaaaaaared!"
[ETA: Bwhahahahaha!! XD XD I did it to myself with this post. Just heard from Temp Naruto Editor and I need to try to finish Naruto 46 by tomorrow afternoon. 30 pages in a day and a half. HAHAHA!!! THis is what you get for speaking to soon, stupid! *smacks herself in the face* Okay, I really need to hit it. CAFFEINE!!!!! GRAAAA!!! /eta]
I have good news! Now that all 5 of my titles are slow and intermittent (especially Clay, which is now only twice a year) I can officially handle a 6th title! Lucky for me, I timed it just right and bagged a great one with Shoujo Editor #3. It's actually two separate titles that she happens to want lettered by the same person. I can't reveal names or even the mangaka, but I'm excited! I should begin the first book in about 3 months. This means it's time for two new tags: New Title 5 and New Title 6! (I have to count on my fingers to keep all the New Title identities straight. :B )
The last page in my doujinshi is nearing completion, I am most pleased to say. I have discovered a nasty bug in Deleter ComicWorks, my toning program. When switching layers from black-only to white-only, it sometimes merges black lines from other layers into the one you want white. If you save your pic that way--it's stuck. D= At least it doesn't affect the original layer it copies the merged lines from, it only messes with the current layer you're working on, the one you switched to white. I ended up copying the part of the layer that was supposed to be there and pasting it into a new layer, then deleting the buggy one, but still. I'm now paranoid about flipping a layer between black only and white only, and I save like mad before I do JIC I have to revert. YIKES. I hope Deleter fixed this bug before they released the 2nd version of the proggie...which I wish they would get around to releasing in English. T.T I'll probably be switching to Manga Studio anyway... Oh, I DID figure out a neat shortcut in Deleter that they don't mention in the user manual: when drawing with the pen tool, you can hit "X" and switch between ink and eraser! This is better than using the actual eraser tool, where you can't control the width of the erase with pen pressure. Sweet!! And very useful for tweaking fine hair. ^^V
I'm continuing my education in non-manga comics by reading Watchmen, which I checked out from the library. (No way am I forking over $20 to read a book I might not like!) I'm about half-way through, Rorschach was just captured. I figured out who he was before his identity was revealed. *is smug* I'm liking the mystery so far and will definitely finish it. Art-wise, it's classic western style. No face closeups, white space is apparently the enemy, vanilla panel layouts, no sense of design esthetic and complete lack of screen tone. It holds no visual appeal to me. <:| Even the non-pretty shounen manga like Naruto and One Piece have a beauty of line and style that attract my eye. This traditional western comic art isn't to my taste at all, though I am glad none of the women (so far) have basketball boobs. The characters seem so stiff and expressionless... oh well. The art does manage to tell the story, since I'm enjoying the plot so far--despite the art. *wonders if she's going to hear from the anti-manga comic fans* The only character that has caught my interest is Rorschach, though Jon's experiencing every moment of his new life simultaneously is intriguing and has potential. Once I finish the book, I plan to watch the movie. I wonder if Rorschach's mask will change in every take or scene, like it does in each panel of the comic... That's a neat effect, I must say.
My current audiobook is Stephen King's Salem's Lot, which was recced to me by Kiokonai. I'm enjoying it, and being diligent about my booknotes file to keep every character straight. I'm so glad I started doing those for my audiobooks. I "read" so many mysteries and long series that my booknotes are the only way I can remember who the characters are. I had to stop listening early last night, as I was getting a little nervous. XD The book is 30 years old and still making readers squirm! I really respect Mr. King, I do. :D
That's it for today. Work calls!!
