Shigoto update, wheee!
I do believe it's time for a shigoto update, hmm? Though there isn't much actual news to report!
Captive - Vol 5 was released in July, so the complete series is now available. Kyaa!
Clay - Clay Editor estimates lettering should begin on vol 16 towards the end of September. This is if the translator is on time, of course. That's always a huge variable. :P~~~ I already have the Japanese tanko. I counted 3.5 fight scenes and a lot of talking, so perhaps this vol will be on the easier side of Clay average. Highlight for mild spoiler: Lots of side-character page time in this vol. ^^ English vol 15 will be out in November. Quite a long wait! It has a great cover, though. Check it out! Yagi-sensei's painting skills have really improved from the early days. Mostly in his color ability. ^^V
Nana - almost finished with vol 20. Looks like I'll complete it two to three weeks early. Which is good, b/c Clay and Naruto are looming on the horizon. It's no wonder everyone freaked out when vol 20's tanko hit the shelves--you'd be hard-pressed to find a more killer cliffhanger than this one. I'm tempted to ask the translator if the implication is a red herring or if it's true! Interestingly, I don't feel much sympathy for Takumi, as Shoujo Editor 2 said she did after reading this vol. I suppose my intense dislike for him will take more than vol 20's events for me to overcome. *doubtful sniff* Yazawa-sensei is taking a break from Nana, which means the release of Japanese 22 will be delayed. The tanko for 21 is already out, but SE 2 might push back the lettering to try to lessen the huge gap we're already going to have before English 22 will be released. (Can't release a vol in English without time to letter and translate, after all.) She hasn't said either way, but I'm expecting a delay, or at least some very relaxed deadlines for English 21. Nana vol 18 comes out in September.
Naruto - no news on vol 47. *shrug* Vol 46 will be out in October. I'll likely be neck-deep in 47's conversion around then.
Natsume - I finished the first half of vol 2 last week, and am now waiting for script so I can begin the 2nd half. The translator was a bit late, and then Viz was apparently closed for all or almost all of this week (I have no idea why, I found out when I emailed SE2 and received an automatic reply). Odds are good SE2 tweaked the script from home, so it could likely be ready for me on Monday. I guess I'll find out in a frew days! B&N has no listing for vol 1; it's release date must be rather far-off. Perhaps in spring of 2010?
New Titles 5 and 6 - No news is good news! I'm seriously debating buying the separate CD of screentones for Deleter ComicWorks. I suspect I will need them for these books. Urgh. Must remember to buy...and also must remember to make separate rasterized photoshop files for the useful tones that did come with ComicWorks, to prepare for massive background replacing and retouching. Yes yes, must do that. *is kind of intimidated by the mangaka's style* MUST BE PREPARED, Release date will likely be sometime in 2011. Mark your calendars! *chuckles*
Skip - I'm three weeks ahead of schedule on vol 21, and being sure to tackle at least one Orange or Pink page a day. Today, for example, I'm taking a break from a Pink to post this update. :P I'm almost done with the massive retouch, it could have been much worse if Nakamura-sensei had used a gradient tone instead of a flat one, so I'm not complaining! Flat tone is our friend, oh yes... Skip vol 19 comes out in October. ^^
If you read through everything above, this does mean that at the moment, all I have to letter is Nana and Skip! It feels so weird. O.o Both vols are completely pre-lettered too, so I've been working on my art and stories instead. I didn't post it here, but the rough "blue line" of the human main character from my manga short story is up on my Deviant Art account! 100% SFW. I will be posting the final version here. Perhaps in a few days!
On a side note, at my last Sci-Fi book club meeting, I learned that a small group of professional writers meet a couple times a month to write together. New--serious writers--are welcome to join them. One of those authors is in the book club group. I'm trying to work up the nerve to invite myself. I mean, I'm writing a graphic novel. Does that count? Will the cool kids let me play with them?? O.o *fidgets* I'd so dearly love to have IRL writing friends, but I dunno how they'd feel about the whole graphic novel angle and being unpublished for my own work and not intending to actually publish-publish my first original story anyway since I plan to post it as a web comic and I'm nervous but would love to go MY INSECURITIES, LET ME SHOW YOU THEM. *hides*
