slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (bunnies)
I've managed to catch up with Clay, so now I'm scrambling to do the same with Skip. I really overdid it yesterday, what with lettering about 8 extra pages and finishing reading the magnificent epic fanfic Quality of Mercy by the BNF--but still kind and generous--Mistful. As usual when I'm tired, it's difficult for any one thing to hold my attention. Thus, today while working, I've listened to my latest audiobook, Brisingr, I've tried the radio, I caught up on my LJ communities, I did a little unpacking, I read a new short fanfic (not HP since I'm rather burned out on it at the moment. Pitch Black pre-movie genfic. Above "meh" status, but rather dry), and let my mind wander where it would.

It landed up on the animated short I had planned in my pre-manga-lettering days. The one to hopefully earn me a job with Disney until they killed off their 2D division. I believe I had a good thing in that little short. It was a serious coming-of-age story about a teenage guy. I admit I had Oscar visions for it. *giggles* Even now, years later, I still think that story is solid. And unlike my Original Fantasy Epic, it doesn't need major reconstruction and the filling of plot holes. It was simple, straight-forward, and filled with emotion.

It occurred to me today that I don't have to give up on it. I can still draw it--not as an animated short--but as my first original manga. A short story one shot...like how so many mangaka in Japan start their careers. Of course, mine wouldn't be appearing as a one-shot in a manga mag, but still....practice is practice, right? I've become disillusioned with Twilight, so my doujinshi version of a scene in the first book feels rather distasteful to me now. And I never recaptured the bunny for my Naruto doujinshi after I was so thoroughly jossed. Same for my Vampirates story--though I'm more inclined to finish that one just for the lulz. But I'm not sure I really want to spend my time drawing something in someone else's sandbox. If I'm going to take the time to complete a manga, I'd rather it be my own.

Hmmmmmm. Of course, it's rather a moot point right now, anyway. I have other obligations. One's almost a year old. *waves to the person she promised it to, since she knows she stops by on occasion* I haven't forgotten, I promise!!!

I need to install Anthy on Usagi here. Hmmmmmmm.
