It's 2:30, half an hour before the afternoon sun begins to directly hit my window, lasting until sunset around 9, and it's already 80 degrees next to my computers. I think it's a good thing I set up my air conditioner Hoth today, because the summer gauntlet is about to begin!
I bought a small fan at Freddies. This one has a big clamp, so it's hanging on to the shelf in my desk setup above Usagi, my laptop. It's aimed down at her fan exhaust area. The regular floor fan I used for this purpose last year (then sitting on top of a box that was on top of a fat book to lift it up high enough) will now be aimed at Utena 2's (art computer) and Tsukushi's (work computer) towers for general cool air movement. Hoth, of course, is aimed at all of us from his station in front of the window. My futon and blankets are rolled up out of the way in the corner, held in place with the pillows I jammed underneath it. :B That is one fat roll!
This summer I have Utena 2 with me, and that means things will be warmer than they were last year. Hence the new fan. I do have a third floor fan I use in my bedroom door, blowing in air from my main room once the sun has moved enough to make it cooler in there than in here. That one is a rather noisy fan, thus the reason I keep it at a distance and try not to use it. I also have my big dual-bladed window fan that I can aim where needed.
I trust that Hoth isn't going to leak water all over the carpet now *knock on wood*, so the old folded shower curtain I kept underneath him last year is likely going to be hung over my bedroom door. I can't close the door because Spicer-kitty has to have full run of my small place, but the curtain hanging down in front of the cracked-open door should help things.
A few weeks ago I bought a good set of earphones, the kind with the bar that goes across the back of your neck rather than across your head. Thanks to these, I won't have to crank Usagi's volume waaaay up so I can hear my audiobooks or music playing over the sound of Hoth and my fans. Yay to headphones! Also the sound is much better coming from these than Usagi's tinny speakers, or my nicer speakers when I plug them into the headphone jack. Go figure.
All right summer, I am prepared. I have my fans arranged, Hoth is ready to freeze me out, improvements to all relevant systems have been made, and I never took down the dark towels I hung over my western window last summer for extra sun blackout beyond the regular blinds.
Note to self: if you ever buy place, find one with central air!
