So....on this one 2-page-spread fight scene in Naruto 38, the FX are large and sharp, as Kishimoto-sensei's assistant likes to draw them. Unlike usual, they are white Katakana outlined in black, instead of the normal solid black. Because of their size, the irregular line thickness of the letters' outlines, and the background that will require touchup, I chose to hand-draw this particular FX. Especially since hand-drawn FX require less touchup than text ones, as hand-drawn letters can be forced to fit in ungainly (for English) Katakana-shaped spaces.
Regardless of that, no matter how I stroked in my letters, this one Naruto doppelganger was always completely revealed. In the Japanese version, his body is all there, but only the back fourth of his head and shoulders are visible, as the rest is covered by Katakana. I couldn't perfectly match the Katakana placement for fear of rendering my English FX undreadable.
Why the squees, you ask??? When this means I will have to draw in Naruto's head, his face, and his arms???
Because I had to draw in his head, his face, and his arms. IT WAS FUN.
Heeee....I <3 my job. *giggles* Naruto, vol 38, page 37. My Naruto is the one in the lower left-hand corner. Be sure to check him out. ^^V Speaking of My Naruto, the first half of my first Shippuuden volume, 29, is in March's Shonen Jump issue. Eeeeeee heeheehee!! *does happy fangirl dance*
