Resistance is futile.
11/2/08 12:59For the past two weeks, I've kept bumping into Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. I bought and read volume one about 6 months ago. I enjoyed it, but I didn't have the energy or focus to write the review I had intended. I also didn't yet own the 2nd volume, New Moon, so I reverted to manga moved on to other books. But now I keep seeing the series everywhere. Prominently displayed in bookstores, overheard in conversations as I walk by, posters, on my email lists, on LJ, everywhere. Consequentially, the book has rather been on my mind, so last night I finished my newest Kaze Hikaru volume (kyaa!) and went for Twilight.
And...I'm very amused at myself. I'm only at the scene where Edward offers to drive Bella to Seattle, but...I keep seeing everything in the story as a manga. O= Edward is this incredible bishounen with sharp eyes surrounded by sparklies and flower motifs. Bella is small and quiet with huge, shimming eyes of her own, always clutching her books to her chest and staring at the floor. I even see the page layouts, especially in the Edward/Bella conversations. A shot of Bella, worried that Edward's going to be mean again. Edward looking confused, then smiling and saying something nice for once...though we see at the edge of the panel that his hand is trembling slightly with the effort. Bella starts, then looks over at him with suspicion. He smiles (cue flowers and sparklies) and Bella's eyes go wide!! She turns away with a guilty blush! Closeup of her eyes, clenched tight as she tells herself not to look at him!! She sneaks a peek anyway, though thick lashes....And and on and on and on. It's freaky to be afflicted so strongly like this...but rather neat, too. I've had this manga-esque inner eye before, but not at this scale!
*twitch twitch* I really really want to draw manga. I want to see if I can tell my own story, just as I can so amazingly visualize Ms. Meyer's. *twitch twitch again*
Grrmph. I think it's time I go offer $450 to Wacom, no?? *twitch twitch twitch*
ETA: You see, it's everywhere! I just received the notice from B&N announcing the preorder and publish date for the fourth volume in the series!!! *headdesk*I haven't bought the tablet yet. So much money....
