slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (angst)
T.T I had no idea this was coming, and it makes me very sad: July '09 will be the last issue of Shojo Beat.

Apparently subscribers will be able to switch their subs over to Shonen Jump, which is okay, I guess. Except I enjoyed the articles in SB--once the mag stopped all that fashion nonsense--and I barely read ANY articles in SJ. The SJ articles are all about gaming, either card-based or videogames. Neither of which have any interest to me. Sometimes they do the odd interview or actual information reporting, but 10 out of 12 months? Gaming crap. What a waste of paper. I'd rather they used those pages for another manga title.

I LIKED how SB was aimed at an older audience. The articles about exploring Japan and cultural info were great. I LOVED the previews for new titles and handy checklist of SB volumes in the back. (Anyone else notice Blank Slate is never listed on it?) SJ only prints previews a few times a year, so it's way too much to hope they might print SB previews too. Maybe we'll get an article or review on the new titles, but that's likely going to be it. :(

I find it incrediby irritating how the boys' mag is continuing, but the girls' mag is scrapped. As usual, male-oriented entertainment is the bigger cash cow, since most girls will read or watch boy-targeted entertainment, but it's a rare boy who does the reverse. Stupid manly stereotypes.

Anyway, my good mood from this morning has plummeted. I was all set to babble about Alphonse, my new UPS, who has just replaced Edward. *sits in the corner and wishes she were young enough to indulge in a satsifying bout of the-world-is-against-me-emo*
