slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (insane laughter)
This is how my day began, paraphrased:

"Good afternoon, Ms Two Moons! Japan has a request for changes on two pages of Naruto vol 32, from Kishimoto-sensei. Please fix them when you can. :D"

..............

Three times now I've received confirmation that yes, my mangaka are looking over my stuff, and it STILL freaks me out. O= It's rather unnerving that I only hear from them when they want me to change something, though. O.o Once for Yazawa-sensei, and now twice for Kishimoto-sensei. No pressure though, right???? *hides underneath her desk* (Just let me freak out for a moment.)

Speaking of which, the 16 pages a day have been very difficult to meet. As in I've only managed it twice. *wince* I should be working now. ^^; Um...yeahgottagobye.

So....on this one 2-page-spread fight scene in Naruto 38, the FX are large and sharp, as Kishimoto-sensei's assistant likes to draw them. Unlike usual, they are white Katakana outlined in black, instead of the normal solid black. Because of their size, the irregular line thickness of the letters' outlines, and the background that will require touchup, I chose to hand-draw this particular FX. Especially since hand-drawn FX require less touchup than text ones, as hand-drawn letters can be forced to fit in ungainly (for English) Katakana-shaped spaces.

Regardless of that, no matter how I stroked in my letters, this one Naruto doppelganger was always completely revealed. In the Japanese version, his body is all there, but only the back fourth of his head and shoulders are visible, as the rest is covered by Katakana. I couldn't perfectly match the Katakana placement for fear of rendering my English FX undreadable.

Why
the squees, you ask??? When this means I will have to draw in Naruto's head, his face, and his arms???

Because I had to draw in his head, his face, and his arms. IT WAS FUN.

Heeee....I <3 my job. *giggles* Naruto, vol 38, page 37. My Naruto is the one in the lower left-hand corner. Be sure to check him out. ^^V Speaking of My Naruto, the first half of my first Shippuuden volume, 29, is in March's Shonen Jump issue. Eeeeeee heeheehee!! *does happy fangirl dance*

/squees We now return to your regular less-squee-y LJ. Sincerely,

s2m, who had to express her joy  X3

First up, there has been no repetition of unexplained knocks in my house, at least that I've heard. Though I haven't taken a nap on the floor since then, either. My grandmother always hated it when I was being "lazy". I would not put it above her to still be disapproving from beyond the grave. My parents and I will try to recreate the sounds, hopefully on Sunday. A large plastic empty detergent bucket IS on the roof, and apparently it WAS windy that day, though it would take one hell of a set of coincidences to make three repetitions of four evenly-spaced knocks caused by wind and a loose bucket. Not to mention how the bangs conveniently moved to the front window when I moved into the kitchen!!!  With the bucket remaining on the roof. Hmmmmmmmm. We'll see.

tl;dr version: Sweeney Todd is good, manga shopping is fun, food is yummy )
Just take me straight to the shiogoto update! :P~~~ )
slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (Voldemart)

Due to events last week, things are rather interesting. We're all stressed out, the Giftmas tree is barely half-decorated, none of the other usual decorations are up, and I've barely bought any presents. I'm behind with work by 14 pages, assuming I can make today's quota. I used up one of my precious days off from all 4 titles yesterday, so at least I'm not 26 pages behind.

Naruto corrections for 32.1 are still waiting for me to finish. I've done all the easy text changes, what's left are FX tweaks (including one really bad page where they changed the actual FX words...O.o) and a ton of Tsunade wardrobe malfunction pre-emptive strikes. (Fear not, Tsunade's more-surface-area kimono top will be in the magazine only. The book version will be unchanged. ) The 2nd half of Naruto 32 corrections should arrive any day now. I have no idea when New Title 2's corrections will arrive. Perhaps after Giftmas. Honey 5.2 corrections are already here, but they aren't due till after New Years. Yay.

I've been rather out of sorts for the past week and a half, so it will be very good to get back on track. I'm exercising today, no matter how much I should work instead. I'm feeling rather tubby since I haven't exercised in a week. I don't care how cold or nasty it is outside, I'll risk getting sick tomorrow for some peace of mind today.

I've been editing DaaGB 5 on paper in my spare non-computer moments, and am almost finished. I've started the final round of computer polishing as well. With some serious luck, I'l lhave it ready to beta in a few days.

And on that positive note, I shall depart. Sorry I'm not full of holiday cheer for you all. I hope everyone is enjoying your own holiday. ^^

slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (chibi s2m)
My my my, here's a first. It took 12 volumes, but I finally had to draw a Claymore warrior's cute butt. This particular woman doesn't have the middle back panel on her armor skirt. And with those skintight leggings they wear, it means...butt cheeks. Yes, I made them shapely butt cheeks. All Claymores are fit, after all! I'm sure the male Clay fans (and the women who are so inclined ^^V) will be pleased with my efforts. *giggle*

Since I'm here anyway and it's been a while, how about a shigoto update??

The good thing about returning to the core 4 is that maybe, just maybe, this holiday season I can take it a little easy. I still have one piece of artwork to finish, and I really really hope to finish chapter 5 of DaaGB and have it up before the end of 2007. I've barely had the time or energy to touch non-work-stuff the past few weeks, so maybe now that New Title 2 is done, I can spend some time with my personal interests. *hopeful smile*

That's it for now, minna. Work calls!! I've been fighting half a cold for the past several days, and now have a rather despressingly large backlog as consequence. Woe again...
slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (caffeine)

I now know what happens when three uber-fans of Gaara/Lee end up chatting online together: much in the way of squeeing, naughty jokes, silliness, and staying up waaaaay too late.

Yes, this means I finally caved and began to chat online again. I'm doing better this time, I've figured out how to work and chat together. Plus, it really helps keep my energy up so I can do more pages. ^^V

Continuing, last Saturday night, I had the most incrediby fun time chatting with Star-chan and Rice-kun.^^ At one point towards the end, Rice-kun asked for a fic prompt, and Star-chan provided. Star-chan then asked for one, so I obliged. After a bit, Star-chan asked me if I wanted one, and since I was almost finished with work for that day, I accepted.

My prompt was "mint". The following is the result, which is noteworthy for being my first fic on demand! Minna, I hope you enjoy. ^^ I know at least three of you will... XD

A Clearing of the Senses )

It's incredibly fun to write togther. I hope we can do so again! XD Oh, and you can find Star-chan's fic by clicking here! Rice-kun has not posted hers, alas. Y.Y

I'm fairly sure I'd like to add this along to my first Gaara/Lee fic into a series of vignettes. I'll see how it goes, hmm?

Cross-posted to LeeGaara and my own journal, of course. ^^

slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (thumbs up)

First up, thanks to everyone who voted in my previous post's poll. If any of you have not yet done so, please vote soon! I am honestly interested in your feedback. ^^

A few big things happened while I was staying away from LJ.

That's it for now, minna. It's good to be back!

slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (thumbs up)
Yes, I just said I was cutting back, but this is important. :P

Mina-san, for ten months you've heard me talk about it, and now you can finally see it yourself. My first Naruto chapter and volume are both out on bookshelves.

In the December issue of Shonen Jump, you'll find the first Naruto I ever lettered, the "proto chapter", which is a one-shot that Kishimoto did for a Shounen Jump special issue in Japan. The reader response was good enough that he launched the Naruto series as we know it today. I was so nervous when I began to letter this...I mean...OMG it's Naruto. D8

In the manga section, you'll now find my first real Naruto volume, #21. This volume begins with Sasuke leaving Konohagakure, and continues up to almost the end of the Choji/Jirobo fight. By this time, I was used to the idea of working on Naruto, so I wasn't freaking out nearly as much. But it was still amazing that I was working on Naruto. And yanno what? It still is.

So. I know a large proportion of the people who read my blog appreciate the awesomeness that is Naruto. I would be very grateful if you take a look at my version! m(_)m

Looks like Shippuuden anime will reach my volume 32 with next week's ep. Which means my ShinoHina story will be Jossed the ep after that. Or maybe two eps, if they really pad the anime as usual :P Good thing I decided to make the fic manga verse. And that way, Naruto has never been on any missions with the pair, either.

I watched the new opening twice. Heeeee. Though I muted it the second time. And OMG, the Sai fanservice ed. *blink blink*.

BTW, for the past 24 hours I haven't been receiving email notifications of replies to my posts and comments. I've been having to reload my lj messages page to check for them. I have no idea why this is happening, but I hope it ends soon. In the meantime, I'll just keep reloading every hour or so. Mmph.

Wow, a short post...

Osu, minna!

Before I forget yet again, my Naruto vol 32 has a great page that showcases all the Shippuuden character's relative heights. So for your reference, tallest to shortest:

Kakashi
Gai (only a teensy bit shorter)
Neji
Kankuro
Temari (in her heels, she's the same height as Kankuro)
Lee
Naruto (about three inches shorter than Lee)
Tenten (Tenten is also in heels, which make her equal to Naruto)
Gaara-sama (about three inches shorter than Naruto)
Sakura (in her heels, she's the same as Gaara-sama)

Gaara-sama looks to be about 5 or 6 inches shorter than Lee-kun. And since Naruto is about 5 foot 6 in Shippuuden, and Gaara-sama is shorter than him, then I almost tower over him, since I'm 5 foot 7. T_T But he's drawn very solidly, so at least he has lots of nummy muscle to carry me with...

/random post. I talk about Naruto a lot, don't I...?

Yes, I changed my journal layout again. The ginko leaves were pretty, but for some reason the date and timestamp on my entries wouldn't remain displayed, so I found this pretty minty thing instead. Wheee!

As promised, a shigoto update.

Alas, my mini-break is over. The tiffs (meaning the individual page images in their original Japanese language) finally arrived for Honey volume 5, which means I'm back to four simultaneous titles again. T.T And I'm suddenly stressed about it, but only b/c I haven't really put it into the proper perspective. (Plus points for alliteration.)

That's it for now. Work calls...no more spare time for s2m. *sigh* It was so nice while it lasted...

slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (bunnies)

Why are so many of my plot bunnies in Naruto??? Here I was, happily lettering vol 32 and marveling at how very sexy Shippuuden Kiba looks, and awww...Hinata is still so sweet and adorable, and Shino is being anti-social towards Naruto as usual...but why is that....is it only what just happened on that earlier page? Or is there something more...like...oh, I dunno...maybe Shino could have a thing for Hinata but here she loves Naruto, and her family is so old and prestigious and how interesting if Shino's been holding it in for all this time and stupid Naruto keeps stealing his glory on missions and has Hinata's adoration and doesn't even realize it and maybe Shino's dad has forbidden him from acting on his love for Hinata and-- *headdesk*

Grrmph. ><

Just what I need, another Naruto plot bunny.

I wanna write it...

I can hear the rabid NaruHina shippers sharpening their knives....

Yes, mina-san! Today is my birthday! Waiii! XD Today I am one year older, and one year more firmly on the side of "obasan" versus "oneechan". Ha!

EDIT: Wow, my bday has really brought you guys in! Thank you all so much! I'm glad I've made so many wonderful friends through LJ. XD

Because I feel like it and suspect this topic wins the popular vote, a shigoto update. </pouty s2m>

And with that, the extra-detailed shigoto update is finished. *bows out*

slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (smile)

Not but a few moments ago, I saved the final version of my last page of Naruto. *sighs* For seven months, I've been able to contribute to the world of Naruto. 850 pages or so bear my lettering and FX style...three volumes and the very first chapter of Naruto ever.

Yes, I will miss Naruto. So I guess the next question is: if I were offered to pinch-hit for more Naruto volumes, would I take them? If I could fit them into my schedule, yes. If I were offered to become the permanent letterer for Naruto, would I take it? Hmmmmm...now that requires some thought. I doubt it will happen, but it's interesting to consider. Very interesting...

Today I did something for the 2nd time in my life: I saw a movie alone.

So now I've seen three movies in 2007: 1. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Mr. Depp, Mr. Bloom, Mr. Fat, 2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Daniel Radcliffe (not old enough yet to earn a "Mr."), and Transformers umm...Bumblebee??

Before I went to the movie, I braved the expanse of Walmart on the weekend. I try to avoid Walmart at all costs (har har), but since my hometown does not have a real bookstore, if you want to buy reading material, you have to go to Walmart, Target, Kroger, etc. And I needed a few things I can only get at Wally World anyway, so :P. Anyway, Kiokonai's imouto (I need to give her a Japanese name) told me a few days ago how excited she was about the upcoming third volume in a series she likes, and she told me about how the entire series begins. It sounded enjoyable, and since she had bought the first volume at Wally World herself, I decided to buy it, too. Only...they didn't have it. I searched their completely disorganized book and magazine section for 15 minutes and couldn't find a single copy. (HP 7? Check. Shojo Beat August issue? Check. Naruto vol 15? Check. Every Nora Robers and Danielle Steele book ever in print? Double check! But not one copy of the book I wanted. >3< And of course, no book section employees were in existence. I didn't realize how much I wanted to read that book until I couldn't find it. *sulks* The book is Twilight, by Stephanie Meyer, BTW. *sulks some more*

On a work note, I just finished drawing 1,000 radial lines for the first appearance of Naruto's upgraded Rasengan attack in Shippuuden. Line drawing is incredibly tedious, but it could have been worse. They could have been curved radial lines, like the ones in the original Rasengan attack (which I dealt with in vol 25...) or they could have been lines plus tone. (I'm looking at you, Clay!!) But hey, at least it's Kyuubi Naruto casting it. I love Kyuubi Naruto...it's the fangs and the whisker lines. Eeeeeee. *^^* Kyuubi Naruto is almost as yummy as Gaara-sama! XD
slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (Yutaka-sama)

I've been rather silent lately, in comments, email, and blogging. Gomen. It isn't for any particular reason--I'm no busier than normal, not feeling any worse than normal. I guess I simply haven't felt like chatting much!!

To catch everyone up on work, here's what's going on. I rechecked my schedule math, and provided I don't fall behind, everything looks good and manageable. I'll be finishing Honey 4.1 and Naruto 29 both a week before they are due b/c of my trip to the west coast. I have an extra week for Skip 12.1 for my vacation, and I've been keeping up with my Clay schedule, which I calculated to allow me the extra time in the first place.

For a small fandom digression, I ended up visiting a Claymore comm, [profile] claymore_fans. They don't have the slightest idea that I'm here. Of course, the comm was made after the anime debuted, and they seem to focus on scanlations *grumble*, but still. And no, I'm not going to announce myself. I rarely tell anyone I don't know what I do for a living.

And because of two bad!fic rants for Clay on [community profile] fanficrants, my next fic will not be Jin/Mugen slashy goodness. It's going to be that Clay fic I mentioned several posts ago. Heh! *hides from a very angry and sexually frustrated Mugen* I've begun rereading Clay from vol 1 and taking notes for fic purposes. It will be genfic and rated PG or PG-13 for violence. So hopefully those of you who don't Naruto or slash/yaoi will read some Clay instead. ^^V

slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (smile)

So here is that bit of fanart inspired by Star-chan's completely wonderful giftfic for me. You know I've been working on it for months, and now it's finally finally done. YAY!!

What's interesting is that I posted this to the Leegaara community. Normally that comm has 2 or 3 posts a day. But after mine...none. For five days. *blink blink* What, did I scare everyone else away?? D= It isn't that good! Ttaku mo!!

But anyway, here 'tis, in my own journal:

Lovely words and boys behind the cut! XD )

slr2moons: a self-portrait, of me in my usual habitat: in front of my computer monitors! (smile)
I have resigned myself to my current situation, which more or less means I'm in the work-work-nothing-but-work mindset now. :P Yet here I am, typing a blog entry.

To bring everyone up to date on work, here's what's going on. I have script for Clay 11.1, so I began that yesterday. With Honey, I'm nearing the end of volume 3, which means facing those horrid omake pages. >< This volume is ending in a sad note... Honey begins serialization in Shojo Beat with the September issue!!! Everyone, please check it out! XD Naruto vol 29 is progressing, I'm about a third of the way through. Now that Clay is here, I've lowered my Naruto daily quota to three pages a day, while everyone else is still at four. Since I was sent the script so early, and have already lettered so much, I can still finish Naruto before I leave for the West Coast at this slower pace. I'm 3/5ths of the way through Skip vol 11, and thankfully the 2nd half has a minimum of difficult pages. With Clay here, that's a good thing. Particularly since the first two Clay chapters are all fight scene. Joy. (And Clare...what is going on with you?!?? I'm scared!!! D= ) Nana's last chapter for the magazine is now out, at least for subscribers, in the August issue. I babbled all about it on my super-spoilery post to the Shojo Beat comm.

In the good-bye article for Nana, they printed my short little message about the series in a neat way: they made it look like a post-card. They even included the post-mark stamp with the correct city on it! My last name isn't very common, and I'm in the phone book, so it wouldn't take much effort for an obsessive stalker to track me down. I doubt anything will happen, but it will be interesting to wait.

And I can begin lettering Nana vol 13 any day now. It's a month sooner than I expected, and I admit I'd hoped to finish Naruto before beginning Nana. Now I have to decide. I foresee much numbers-crunching and work-pace calculating in my future. So for the moment, no more goo. Though I might revert to goo status for a while after I factor Nana back into the equation. Not to mention my one-shot title in September. Wheeeee! But for now, work calls. Haiiiiiiiiiii.
